Marketplace Literacy Project
The Marketplace Literacy Project was born out of lessons learned from research into subsistence marketplaces. Marketplace literacy encompasses consumer, entrepreneurial, and sustainability literacy. It aims to engender knowledge and skills, self-confidence, and awareness of rights. The curriculum was developed on the basis of rigorous, qualitative research of low-literate, low-income buyers and sellers for the past two decades. Using this research as a basis, a curriculum for entrepreneurial and consumer literacy was developed in the early 2000s. The program has brought its education program to eight countries through a variety of modes.
